Abstract
Al trabajar un tema, el historiador se fija un camino definido; sin embargo, en cuanto lo transita, a veces, en algún entronque, se encuentra con senderos que momentáneamente lo desvían de su ruta inicial; son claros en la maleza que le descubren un paisaje nuevo. Entonces, aún cuando sea por breve tiempo, decide dar un rodeo: ¿pura curiosidad? ¿Pérdida de tiempo? No; posiblemente no llegue a la misma meta, tal vez no llegue puntual, pero quizá encuentre pinceladas de diferentes colores para completar el panorama de la realidad que estudia. El paisaje puede ser la sociedad novohispana en su variante occidental; el sendero y la maleza, ciertas prácticas malthusianas...In all cases, authors will retain the moral rights established by law and they will yield the right of first publication of their article to the journal.
