Abstract
Este ensayo es el primer resultado de una investigación más amplia que analiza la utilización de los espacios públicos en la Ciudad de México —y su entorno— como lugares privilegiados para efectuar en ellos las fiestas civiles y religiosas. En ese sentido, interesa ofrecer una perspectiva que permita conocer la simbiosis que existía entre las celebraciones festivas y la distribución urbana de la ciudad en el siglo XIX. Se pretende abordar el problema de la socialización vinculado al entorno físico. Las fiestas congregaban en un sólo espacio a los representantes de distintos estratos sociales, los cuales desplegaban sus respectivas actitudes culturales.
