Abstract
Es el mes de septiembre de 1856. Barreta en mano, cuatrocientos trabajadores se resisten a cumplir una orden emitida días antes por el presidente Comonfort. Se niegan a tumbar los muros del inmenso convento de San Francisco, a abrirlo en canal. Dice la orden: “Para la mejora y embellecimiento de la capital de la República [...] quedará abierta la calle [...] y se denominará de la Independencia”.
