Abstract
La paulatina disolución de los fuertes y seculares lazos que hacían depender a las colonias americanas de la metrópoli hispana impactó de manera diversa a cada uno de los territorios. El bloqueo inglés impuesto a los principales puertos peninsulares que mantenían comunicación con las Indias Occidentales provocó una sucesiva serie de desequilibrios: desde una marcada irregularidad en los intercambios comerciales, el incremento del contrabando y hasta la consecuente merma en la recaudación fiscal con efectos inmediatos en términos del sostenimiento del “orden colonial”.
